2009 - 2011
2009 to 2011 - changes to the layout of the hospice.
In September 2009 the trustees felt that the hospice needed a face-lift and this was carried out during the temporary closure in early 2010 at a cost of £62,000. A considerable part of the cost was necessary in order to bring the hospice into line with the latest infection control and patient handling regulations. The work was carried out on the clear understanding that the hospice would re-open when staff became available.
Events over the subsequent two years showed that this would not be the case. After many, many meetings, the bedded area was moved upstairs where the accommodation was better but initially was thought to be too clinical.
